Meet SLIM (Salvacion Lim Higgins)

One sunny afternoon, a coaster was headed to the National Museum. It was fully loaded. Inside was Manong, Drex, Ma'am Sheree, Ma'am Kathy, Kayelle, Shai, Krishy, Kika and I. We went there to get some inspiration for our designs.

Entrance fee is 100Php but it's only 80Php for senior citizen and 30Php for students. What's funny was - as the bosses were about to pay for our entrance, they were asked how many of us were students. We were like giggly coz we all are working already. Bags have to be deposited at the entrance, so are cameras. Which means no photos. Hmmm, but wait celphones are allowed inside.

SLIM Exhibit is on the fourth floor of the museum. Carlos "Botong" Francisco Exhibit is on the fifth. But we were there for SLIM although Drex and the bosses need to see Botong. It is dark inside the exhibit room. The photo below can be seen painted in one of the walls. I think this is her signature.

Salvacion Lim Higgins or Slim is a Philippine couturier. "Slim" is the contraction of her maiden name.
She is the founder of the Slim's Fashion and Arts School.

These are some of the samples of her designs on display that has intricate details.
The Filipiniana (the one with butterfly sleeves)and the Terno (the one with alampay).

This set of clothes I think is ahead of their time. Slim started designing late 1940's I've read.
The silhoutte she used is modern and I'd love to wear something like that.
The next set of clothes are blouses with full beadwork. I wonder how many hours/ days were spent to attach all those beads and trinkets.

This bridal gown was the one that really caught my attention. It has a train that is 18 yards long. Beat that! It's made of silk and lace and yes it has all that works - glass beads, drop beads, pearls and rhinestones. The lucky bride was President Garcia's daughter.

All in all, I was really impressed by Slim's work. She's a genius. I admire the construction of the clothes she make, the details, the silhoutte. Are we smelling something - future National Artist for Fashion (wink, wink)

For those who hasn't seen the exhibit yet. Don't you worry guys. The Slim Exhibit at the National Museum is extended until May 15, 2010.

Amanda Seyfried on Lucky

Earlier, I was decluttering mine and sister's room. I then saw the February 2010 issue of Lucky magazine which has Amanda Seyfried on its cover. I remember that she also graced the cover of Lucky for its February 2009 issue because I was skimming throught the back issues' content last Friday. Lucky covergirl twice - same month for two consecutive years. She sure is Lucky! Kudos to Lucky for choosing her. I mean, aside from her pretty face, she acts and she sings.

She looked stunning with the red dress in the 2009 issue. But I like her better in the 2010 issue. She looked so pretty and fresh in pink (simple but neat get-up).

Mira and I were talking about Amanda and Dear John and Little House last Friday. Btw, Mira is my new "train buddy". Before it was Faye, Kayelle and Jen. Then, Jen resigned. Followed by Faye. Kayelle started to go to work at 8am. So she now goes home an hour earlier than me. Good thing Mira and I both leave the office at 7pm.

And like while we were on our way to Lulu Belle last Thursday, Shai played the song Little House in her car. This was part of the soundtrack of Dear John. I love the way she sang the song. It's full of heart. She has this sweet voice. I made it my new profile song in Plurk. I'm also thinking of using it for my Flipnation.

Yogurt Tripping at Lulu Belle

Either you spell it yogurt, yoghurt or youghurt (btw,  all three is correct) - one thing comes to mind.
It's that healthy and heavenly treat.

After a whole day of reporting and brand discussion, Kika and Shai decided to go yogurt tripping. I went with them. From Rosas Garden Hotel in Malate, we went to Serendra Piazza at Boni High Street in Taguig. Time to meet that cute, pink cow with wings named Lulu Belle.

The place serves ice cream, yogurt and smoothies. We were there for yogurt. One can have their yogurt natural, flavored or sugar free. There's also a wide choice for toppings: fruits, chocolates, cookies, cake, nuts, candies, cereals. Hard to pick right? Well, one can always combine. Serving can be in a small or big pink cup.We had ours big. Note to self - it's healthy. If you have four or more toppings it'll be served in a white cup.

There are seats inside the bar and some tables outside the nice little shop Kika had hers served first. She sat by one of the seats inside as Shai and I picked our topppings.

Kika sure is enjoying her yogurt.

Shai trying to decide what toppings she'll have for her yogurt. Hey do you see that pink little cow by the counter? When you drop a coin in the slot at it's back, it'll moo. Clever huh!

Me enjoying a scoop of yogurt with strawberry and chocolate chip toppings. Yummy.

When we all had our cups served, we went outside the shop. It's located at the corner of Serendra Piazza which I think is nice if you also want to people watch while enjoying a cup of yogurt. Hihih. That night I got to taste green tea, mango and strawberry yogurt. Sweet! As we were to leave, Shai ordered another cup of yogurt. I tell you, that's how good Lulu Belle yogurt is. It'll keep you coming back.

Late last year before the actual run of the contest, our team did some shoots of our own.
One working day was spent shooting. The photos taken were used for the online posters.
When we say our team that means the DSD people.
The merchandisers - senior and junior, designers and graphic artists
acted as models/ make-up artists/ stylists/ photographers for a day (a different routine eh?!).
On Kayelle: shirt (Solo), shorts (Freeway)
On France: shirt (Solo), leggings (Freeway)

Going Galera

Can't believe it's almost a year since my college pals and I have gone to Puerto Galera.
I was looking through my photo folders and stumbled upon these pictures.
Those were the days (I'm talking as if I am that old, hahaha)
Inside the van, on our way to Batangas Port.

high school musical beach edition (group jumpshot)

I didn't jump too high, did I?
friends labeledtyt - The Swan Jump (whatever?!)

For two nights we went to Mikko's Bar. Of course we had the famous Mindoro Sling.
Shown above are the tissue rings which Maica made (how ingenious of her, hehe).
Sign of friendship =)

I Love CT
Go, go, go BS Clothing Technology graduates!!!

L-R or R-L (doh, i'm confused). Anyway, in the picture are Camille (the one wearing purple), Kiss, Macy, me, Mapat (the one with shades), Maica and Jenina. Uhoh, Chock is not included in the group picture. Obviously, he was the one who took this photo.

It just occured to me...

...that i don't own a pair of black shoes.
For someone who supposedly has some knowledge in fashion.
I should know that having a pair of black shoes is necessary.
But included in my shoe rack are these colorful cuties:
fuchsia wedges (Syrup)

teal shoes (Hush Puppies)

yellow flats (Shoes Unlimited)

caramel shoes (Mario D'boro)

The shoes one wears gives a glimpse of the personality of its wearer.
(that I believe, I may be mistaken though)

Dinner at AA Bbq

We went to Ayala Terraces (in search of an atm machine, coz Ate jen and I ran out of cash)

To AA BBq it is, as suggested by Marife. It's located at Salinas Drive at Lahug Cebu City. What I didn't know is that I don't have to travel that far to have a taste of their barbacue coz they have a branch in Greenhills Shopping Center. LOLz

Food was good. When the bill arrived I can't believe that it was less than a thousand pesos. I mean, we ordered a lot. See that plastic bag there? There's still food left for takeout.

Trip to Cebu (March 12-14, 2010)

A trip to Cebu would not be complete without visiting Magellan's Cross.
It is near Basilica Minore del Sto. Nino de Cebu.
I took "some" photos while there. Here are some. The rest i posted in Facebook.

facade of the Basilica

I wanted to include the whole painting of the ceiling in this photo but I simply can't, tsktsk...
